Hurricane Michael is currently classified as a Category 4 hurricane with wind gusts up to 160 mph in parts of the Florida Panhandle.

More than 375,000 people have been told to evacuate parts of the Florida Panhandle and Gulf Coast, as Hurricane Michael aims to make landfall this afternoon. A Category 4 or stronger hurricane has never made landfall in the Florida Panhandle, and Michael is forecasted to be a large, catastrophic and dangerous hurricane, with life-threatening storm surges, damaging winds and flash flooding.

We understand how important it is to stay connected to your loved ones in these circumstances, and we will work tirelessly to ensure our mitigation efforts run according to our continuity plan. All systems are currently operational, and we will keep you updated as time progresses.

While more than one million power outages are predicted to occur near the coast and inland after landfall, be assured that we are executing a disciplined procedure designed to keep customers’ services running. In the event of these unavoidable weather-related outages, our top priority is to restore service as quickly as possible, while keeping our technicians safe.

Every event is approached in three phases:

  1. Pre-Event Preparedness
  2. Event Response
  3. Restoration

Step One: Bookmark this page and the National Weather Service for critical storm updates and store closings.

Step Two: Follow us on Facebook and Twitter, and be sure to send us photos of your surroundings when possible. We will be updating our feeds when we’re actively tracking and reacting to storms. This will be your best resource for understanding large scale impacts to the network and your services.

Step Three: Browse our preparation checklists that display the steps you should take to get ready for major storms. Know that our field services are ready for these types of events and that we do everything we can to minimize or remove interruptions to our network and your services.
